BES were awarded the prestigious project to design and construct a new Compound Semiconductor Innovation Centre to provide a collaborative environment for innovation, testing and research.
We were asked to transform the fallow areas into 1000m2 of cleanroom and laboratory space and 1500m2 of grade A offices. The scope of works included RIBA stage 3 developed design through to construction, commissioning and validation and into user occupancy. The project had to be delivered on a fast track construction programme with early access beneficial use of the office space a key driver for our client.
Early planning workshops and constructability reviews helped to resolve a couple of major challenges on the project. The decision to install the raised access floor as one of the very first tasks along with the removal of a lab area mezzanine plant deck, have both provided real timeline benefits and have reduced construction risk.
The labs and cleanroom were constructed from specialist cleanroom partitioning and contain client equipment. The project also involved construction of open plan offices, including a variety of highly bespoke architectural features and finishes.
