The ultimate phase of a new-build and refurbishment warehousing and logistics project for AstraZeneca was the design, installation and commissioning of a state-of-the-art 8000m2 packing facility. All delivered to the client’s critical success factors including zero disruption to ‘Business as Usual’.
BES were contracted to design and deliver a Global Packing Centre, comprising nine Grade D packing cells adjoining a common secondary packing space, along with wash bay, tool store and associated office accommodation. Each of the primary packing cells required strict temperature, humidity and pressure control to enable primary packing of pharmaceuticals in a clean environment with no risk of contamination. All works had to be delivered without disturbing business-as-usual operations.
Stringent air pressure regimes were engineered into the facility to restrict microbial and particulate contamination within compliant limits, with air locks employed to eliminate cross-contamination. BES also designed, installed and commissioned a complex HVAC system using primary and secondary air handling units, along with modularised service distribution units, to deliver a temperature, humidity and pressure controlled environment for each area. Working collaboratively with the client, we have delivered a forward-looking packing facility to programme and cost with no unplanned business interruption and an excellent safety performance.
